HISTORY

Eiji was born in Kugane to Rin Kodaira and Ruzena Kolar. Rin was a well-to-do businessman, having already started building his trade and import empire, acting as a middleman to get import and export goods through Kugane to the other parts of Hingashi. Ruzena, an Ala Mhigan who had long since left her home. He was their first child, followed by a younger sister.As he grew, Eiji spent most of his time tagging along after his father's travels, meeting business associates and learning the language of trade and manners. He was an inquisitive and friendly child, eager to keep his father pleased so that he might keep traveling and meeting others. Though his father was relatively distant, his son's interest in his work pleased him, and the two enjoyed a somewhat amiable relationship. When Eiji became a teenager he began formally working for Kodaira Trading & Imports.Eiji quickly realized, however, that being involved in trade and one day taking over the family business was not as interesting as he had thought -- he had been trying to please his father and spend time with him, but didn't care for the cutthroat, shady businessmen and the perpetual risk of robbery and defamation. This, too, was mirrored in his mother's gradually worsening relationship with his father, as the stress and distance seemed to take a toll on her.While accompanying an expensive shipment, the Kodaira fleet was set upon by pirates. Though his father had hired guards, they had been paid well not to interfere, and when Eiji threatened them to leave, they left the mark on his face as warning. He was powerless to defend himself or his younger, disabled sister, as he had no combat skills and a job he hated. After that, Ruzena divorced Rin and returned to Eorzea with Eiji's sister Salima, finally unable to deal with any more uncertainty about their future.Eiji left the company, then, and went to 'find himself', in a sense. What he found instead was a mentor, who sought to teach others the ancient art of geomancy. Eiji, eager to feel less powerless and find meaning, quickly agreed, and all but disappeared from Kugane for several years, straining his relationship with his father as never before. He trained rigorously to learn the art of geomancy, following each risk that his mentor put before him. After the death of his mentor, he would return, and agree to his father's terms: he must return to work for the company, and in exchange he would be given more freedom both in the company and in travel.Eiji saw his opportunity and took his father up on the offer, using his work for Kodaira Trade & Imports as an excuse for the ability to travel and meet new people, as well as a familiar comfort -- something he knew, something he was good at. The death of his mentor had left him wanting stability, but his heart still yearned for newness. Finally, he proposed to his father that he would travel to Eorzea to represent their company to those sending their wares from the far-off west. His father hesitantly agreed, and allowed for his son to travel.Eiji traveled to Eorzea in search of meaning. In search of something missing, some mysterious purpose, or new sights and sounds. To make a name for himself in the land of his mother.

The proprietess of the River's Bend Inn, whom Eiji met suddenly one fateful day. Since then, he has become close friends with her -- and recently, more, as they shared a dance and a few kisses since. He adores her with his whole heart.

The head of the guard at the River's Bend, Blahomil is a friendly face as well as a trusted ally. Though Eiji would admit he doesn't know him as well as he'd like, Uteki's love and trust for him means quite a bit.

Quenepa is a new face around the inn, and her energy and bright smile is always a welcome sight. Though Eiji hasn't gotten to know her well, he finds her antics charming and looks forward to spending more time with her.

Eiji has a strained relationship with his father. He still works for Rin's company, and thus his finances and freedom are controlled by him to an extent, a fact that his father holds over him. Somehow, though, Eiji cannot fully hate him.

Eiji reconnected with his mother after he traveled to Eorzea, and has been slowly working through his feelings of inadequacy. Despite divorcing his father, Ruzena dearly loves her son and is proud of the man that he's become.

Salima went with their mother when Eiji's parents divorced. Eiji has always blamed his inability to protect her on the injury she suffered, though Salima does not seem to share this sentiment, though she does love to tease him.
